Midterm Madness

  • Group Meeting: 1h
  • PPJ: 20m
  • Character skeleton Modeling: 2h

Total Hours: 3h 20m

Positives: This week we had a group meeting of the full core team for the first time in a bit and it was excellent. We were able to discuss ideas and thoughts about certain choices for specific artistic interpretations. I was informed that I am in charge of modeling the characters as well as creating concepts for them, which isn’t bad, just daunting. I have to create a skeleton we can use for the characters very soon so I have been doing research on how to modeling and rig characters again.

Negatives: This week was completely unproductive for me. I was heavily focused on taking care of midterms and making sure that other classes were taken care of. Now that my other GMAP classes have been taken care of I am poised to put all my effort into the work for this segment of SPROJ.

Looking Ahead: My task is to finish up the final concepts for the characters as well as setting up a character mesh and Rig

  • Concept Art work: 5 hr
  • Team Meeting: 1h
  • PPJ: 20m

Total Hours: 6h 20m

Positives: This week I was able to make some strides on getting designs ready for the characters. We didn’t have a meeting for the art team this week, but we did receive instructions on how to proceed with the drafting of designs by the producer. All in all it was very productive, at least with all things considered, over multiple aspects too. I was able to work with things that I haven’t done before, such as digital work and new designs and ways to pursue them. I am intrigued with what the project leads want us to do, the style they want to tackle, and I am truthfully enjoying stepping out of my comfort zone. My favorite helmet design for our Noble woman was lauded by the other artists which is a wonderful feeling to be honest.

Negatives: I made great strides with my work but I feel like there was time wasted. Specifically I spent time teaching myself how to draw digitally so that I can have an easier time sharing my work with the group. This is a short term negative as it will help out in the long term, but still. We need to iron out exactly what we want the design to be. Ergo I will push to have a meeting this upcoming week to unify all the ideas that we have brought together. That is not say that we have different ideas as how to proceed, but I want to make sure that our end goals align, and if they don’t, I am happy to shift them.

On Our Way

  • General/Concept Art Meetings: 3h
  • Rob Lloyd meeting: 2h
  • Team Meeting: 1h
  • PPJ: 20m
  • Character Concept Research: 4h

Total Hours: 10h 20m

Positives: This week we met with Robb Lloyd and discussed ideas that would help us on our way to create our game. we discussed different sources as well as several different ideas that we can use for our gameplay. This being said most of this week was spent brainstorming about characters as well as sketching out some ideas and finding references for others. I am happy to say that I am the person who is in charge of the character concept art design and it is wonderful. I also had a wonderful time talking to Sydney and brainstorming about possible designs of each of the characters. We also were fortunate enough to observe the work of a masters student, jaleese blanding-coates.

Negatives: Most of this week was spent doing research and making notes on the characters, and little was done on the work. Now that it is done I can focus on getting the concepts done as well as the orthographic images when it comes to that.

On Our Way

  • General/Concept Art Meetings: 3h
  • PPJ: 20m
  • Concept character art: 2h

Total Hours: 5h 20m

Positives: And we are in full swing! we have discussed at length what we wanted to do with the game and had a wonderful meeting about what we wanted to do for character design. I have a wealth of different resources to help me on this process and have plenty of ideas due to the wonderful inspiration that the art team came up with during our meeting. I feel much more comfortable with this idea, as cybernetics and the like are things that I think are really interesting and cool. I say this because they feature heavily with our character design.

Negatives: I wasn’t able to get as much done as I wanted to this weekend for concept art. Time management is going to be a large thing that I will need to focus on in the future.

And we are off

  • Meetings: 6h
  • Sexual Assault Research: 3h

POSITIVES: The group met two times this week and I can say that I believe that each time was time well spent for the group. We realized that our idea may be too much for us to accurately do justice in the way we want to right now, and because of this we have decided to change our idea to something more manageable. The group has strong vision and good chemistry, and now that we have a solid idea of what we want to do, I think things will become a great deal easier for us than it was before. The idea we are going for, while not what we initially wanted, is still enjoyable and interesting and exciting. This is great because we have many odd and strange objects we can model and add to the game.

NEGATIVES: Well, unfortunately, our idea changed completely, we are no longer working on the interesting and heavy subject of female on male rape, rage, and attempted murder. The story we were weaving around these topics was something that everyone in the group really wanted to tell, but we were terrified that we just couldn’t get it right. We understand that scope will prohibit us from doing many things that we want to do, and because of this we need to make hard decisions.
