Samara Painter, PPJ, Fall Week 11

Tasks:
Finish Conversation UI: 7h15m
Help with Menus: 15m

Total Hours: 7h30m

Positives:

I was able to finish hooking up the point and click UI change for the conversation (and accusation) mechanics. Unfortunately, when screen capturing the blue pointer indicator is not visible, so there’s no indication the player is pointing their hand at it until it changes.

The conversations now spawn text prefabs that can be interacted with by the player by using their right hand as a pointer. The current prefabs are only temporary, as the nice ones that were already created were not compatible with the point and click UI interaction I pulled from the Oculus sample scenes. We should be able to fix that, it’ll just take a bit more debugging.

I also helped Erin a little bit with the main menu and game over screen. She created the screens themselves, and I helped her hook up the point and click UI interaction with those scenes.

Now an end game state is actually reached when you accuse an NPC of the murder.

Negatives:

Unfortunately, the nice prefab Joe made for the conversation UI was not compatible with the point and click interaction that we pulled from the Oculus sample scenes. I tried to figure out why it wasn’t working for a while, but eventually I had to create a less-nice prefab that functioned with the interaction just to get the updated UI done. Luckily, once we figure out how to fix the good prefab, we’ll only have to replace the temporary one in the script with the fixed one – so there should be no code changes.

Looking Ahead:
Break!
Re-work scripts and get them into the Master branch
